Trial#11: Experimental Evaluation Of The Auxinic Effect Of Probiotic Turval Swine In 2nd Postweaning Phase Piglets

Turval Swine has an undoubtable probiotic effect with evident auxinic effects. The test had positive results also and especially in economic terms, assuming that it is reasonable to predict a profit of ITL 8,500 per animal.

TEST METHOD

The test, carried out at Mr. Foschia Silvio's stud, Udine, used piglets deriving from the following crossbreed: ITALIAN LANDRACE - L - per LARGE WRITE - LW - (female line), per DUROC - D - (male line). 120 56-day-old piglets were divided into 2 groups of 60 animals each. The first group was generously fed only on basic fodder (M) while the second group had the same diet (M) supplemented with probiotic Turval Swine in the quantity of 150 gr. per quintal. The piglets were stalled in a room at a temperature of 23-26°C, and were kept in 12 stables of 10 animals each, ranged into 2 opposed lines divided by a passage, with treated animals in the left line stables and non-treated animals in the the right line stables.

MATERIALS

M: basic fodder in pellets

Produced by: Mangimificio Blasizza di Farra d'Isonzo(GO), authorization N° MG 749/RA/1016 of 12/04/91.

Components: Corn meal, corn flakes, soft wheat bran, soybean extract flour, soft wheat rough flour, powdered milk serum, barley wheat, oat flakes, harangue flour, animal and vegetable fats, limestone calcium carbonate, sugar cane molasses, monocalcium phosphate, sodium chloride, Hcl lysine, DL - methionin, zinc oxide, aroma;

Turval Swine: probiotic integrator.

Produced by: Biochemio srl, Pradamano (Udine), Italy. Authorization N.MG 252 of 27/09/94.

Components: balanced mixture of natural products like Turval B (biologically active mixture of selected lactic yeasts, fermentation substrata, cellular metabolites like amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins),powderedmilk serum, wheat fine bran.

COMMENTS ON TEST RESULTS

As shown in the table on the next page, the following can be noticed:

- a greater Average Daily Ponderal Increment of 40 gr., that is +7%, pertreated animal (611 gr. vs. 571 gr. in non-treated animals).

- treated animals show a greater Ingestion, reaching 3.3% (1179.3 kg of ingested fodder vs.1141.6 kg in non-treated animals).

- a greater Yield of treated fodder, reaching 2.2% (50.2% vs. 48%).

It is also to be noticed that during the whole test period treated piglets did not show any health problems.

REMARKS ON THE ECONOMICS ASPECTS

From the above and on the basis of incurred costs, it is possible to calculate the profits obtained by the breeder thanks to the ponderal increment of the piglets treated with Turval Swine.

Considering the feeding costs for treated (ITL 812,482 ) and non-treated(ITL 770,660) animals, the selling price, fixed at ITL 5400/kg and the ponderal increment obtained in the treated group (590 kg) and in the non-treated group (548 kg), it can be concluded that:

The breeder made a profit of ITL 2,384,318 with treated piglets and ITL 2,188,540 with non-treated piglets, making a total profit of ITL 3,262 per animal.

CONCLUSIONS

The purpose of this test has been to verify whether a probiotic specificfor swines, like Turval Swine, can produce an auxinic effect (greater plastic yield) in 2-month-old piglets previously never treated, that is to say with a complete and bioregulated intestinal bacterial microflora, and stabled in optimum environmental and hygienical-sanitary conditions.

The results showed that Turval Swine has an undoubtable probiotic effect with evident auxinic effects. The test had positive results also and especially in economic terms, to the extent that, assuming that the auxinic effect will reach at least the levels obtained during the test period (piglets live weight: 4 to 30 kg),it is reasonable to predict a profit of ITL 8,500 per animal.
